About Us
When a few backyard cages turn into a steady homestead operation, better systems and real experience start to matter. JW Wabbitry, Inc. was built from years of raising rabbits, learning what works in tough weather, and building housing that keeps animals healthy and easy to manage.
About JW Wabbitry, Inc.
We started as a small rabbitry in Ozark, AL, with a simple goal of raising reliable meat rabbits for homestead use. Over time, the herd grew, systems improved, and experience turned into a deeper understanding of daily care, breeding, and housing needs.
Heritage “American” rabbits in blue, white, and black became the focus. These rabbits are raised with steady care and attention, not in large-scale production, but in a controlled homestead setting where each animal matters.
Our Beginning in Rabbit Raising
Our Approach to Care and Housing
Each rabbit is kept in an individual hanging cage inside an open-air barn. This setup supports cleanliness, reduces stress, and makes daily management easier. South Alabama weather brings both heat and mild winters. Cooling is managed with USB fans powered by a solar-charged system. During colder months, wind barriers are added to protect the animals from drafts while maintaining stable airflow.
Care routines are kept simple and consistent. A 16% protein pellet feed from a local mill is used daily, with a 21% protein supplement added for growth support. Treats such as pine cones are offered for natural enrichment and chewing behavior.
What We Learned Over the Years
Experience showed that rabbit raising is not just about feeding and breeding. Housing design, airflow, cleanliness, and routine all affect animal health and growth.
Mistakes and challenges over the years helped shape better systems. Each improvement came from hands-on learning, not theory. That practical knowledge now guides how cages are built and how rabbits are managed.
These lessons are shared with other homesteaders, 4-H families, and FFA students who are learning how to raise their own meat pens and build self-sufficiency at home.
Our Work in Cage Building
Through years of raising rabbits and multiple setups, cage building became a natural extension of our work. We learned how wire strength, spacing, ventilation, and layout affect both animals and caretakers.
This led to offering cage-building services across the Southeast USA. The focus is on strong, simple hanging systems that are easy to clean, long-lasting, and practical for real farm use. Each design reflects real experience in daily rabbit care, not store-bought theory or mass-production methods.
Community, Learning, and Homestead Support
Homestead fairs and farm swaps in Alabama and North Florida became a key part of our journey. These events give families a chance to see systems in person and learn how rabbits fit into self-sufficient living.
We share what we know openly with beginners and experienced raisers alike. When new challenges arise, knowledge is shared through conversation, hands-on advice, and community support. The goal has always been to help others succeed in raising rabbits for food, learning, and independence.
Built on Simple Values and Real Work
We are rooted in practical work, steady care, and long-term thinking. Every system we use or build comes from real experience in raising rabbits day after day.
We continue to focus on small-scale, hands-on rabbit raising that supports homesteads and youth programs across the region. The work stays simple, direct, and based on what actually helps animals and people succeed.
Growing A Better Way to Raise Rabbits
Raising rabbits at home builds skills, responsibility, and food independence. Our work continues to support families and young learners who want a practical way to raise their own meat.
From housing design to daily care systems, everything we do is shaped by experience and a commitment to making rabbit raising easier and more reliable for others. Contact us today for more details.
